Ebola Alert in Major Cities as Obi Set to Become NDC Candidate Today
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has placed Lagos, FCT, Kano, Rivers and several other states on high Ebola preparedness alert. Nigeria's risk of importing the deadly Bundibugyo Ebola Virus has been classified as 'HIGH,' with NCDC urging states to urgently strengthen infection prevention systems.
Meanwhile, Peter Obi is set to be ratified as the National Democratic Congress presidential candidate today during nationwide primaries. The former Anambra State governor emerged as the sole aspirant for the ticket despite logistical disruptions from Eid-el-Kabir holidays.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has intensified political activities following his emergence as the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, visiting Rotimi Amaechi amid party realignments. Atiku also criticized the current administration, calling ransom payments 'as routine a household expense as school fees and rent' while Nigeria faces security and economic crises.
In security developments, five persons including two children were killed in a road crash at Iyana Egbado on the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway, while 10 others sustained injuries. The Nigeria Democratic Congress also announced it will emerge governorship and legislative candidates across the 36 states and FCT today.
