Education Minister reveals NECO questions sold for N3,000 ahead of exams

Education Minister Dr Tunji Alausa revealed on September 3, 2026 that NECO examination questions were allegedly leaked and sold for as little as N3,000, citing a case where former NECO Registrar Ibrahim Wushishi's name became linked to a platform offering pre-exam papers. Speaking at a meeting with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) and other education stakeholders, Alausa described the level of malpractice as "mind-boggling," warning that honest candidates are placed at a disadvantage when others obtain questions before the test.

He said the situation risks pushing even diligent students to cheat simply to compete, and stressed that examination malpractice is not a student-only problem: parents, teachers, school proprietors, principals and invigilators all share responsibility to stop the practice. Alausa also recalled that during the 2025 exams, questionable papers were repeatedly sent to him for verification with officials.
