EFCC Warns of Impersonators Posing as Officials in Major Cities
EFCC has raised alarm over organized groups impersonating its officers to defraud and harass citizens across major cities. The schemes include fake officers ambushing young people at eateries and leisure spots, falsely accusing them of internet fraud, and stealing their belongings. Impostors wear fake uniforms and transport victims to locations made to resemble official EFCC offices.
Another group targets motorists using vehicle number plates as pretext to extort money, often armed with intimidation tactics. Online impersonators also stage dramatized raids mimicking EFCC operations, misrepresenting official procedures and damaging the agency's reputation.
The real EFCC has standard operating procedures and proper channels for grievances. Citizens should verify officer identities through official credentials before cooperating with any enforcement action. If approached by suspicious individuals claiming to be EFCC officers, contact the commission directly through official channels or report to nearest police station.
