Egypt sends 280+ aid trucks to Gaza as death toll tops 74,000
Egypt's Red Crescent dispatched over 280 trucks carrying 3,676 tonnes of flour, food baskets, medicine and fuel to Gaza on Sunday, marking the 302nd aid convoy since its Gaza initiative launched in July 2025. The supplies—earmarked for bakeries paralysed by a severe bread shortage—include 190 trucks sent last week and 90 more on Sunday, to be distributed via the Egyptian Relief Committee in Gaza. ERC says it has now moved over 1 million tonnes of humanitarian aid total with 75,000+ volunteers.
Meanwhile, Gaza health authorities recorded four new deaths and 14 injuries in the past 24 hours. Since the Israel-Hamas ceasefire took effect in October 2025, 1,551 Palestinians have been killed and 5,573 injured. The overall toll since the conflict erupted on 7 October 2023 has reached 74,544 dead and 175,692 injured, per health ministry figures.
For Nigerians following global humanitarian developments, this underscores both the massive scale of sustained relief operations through the Egyptian corridor and the continued civilian casualties despite the ceasefire. The aid flow remains the primary lifeline for Gaza's 2.3 million residents.
With humanitarian needs this vast and casualties still mounting, what does effective international response look like when ceasefires don't fully stop the dying?
