Egypt vow to beat Super Eagles for AFCON bronze on Saturday
Egypt winger Mahmoud Hassan 'Trezeguet' has declared the Pharaohs ready for battle against Nigeria's Super Eagles in the AFCON 2025 third-place match this Saturday. The clash is scheduled for the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca, Morocco, at 8pm local time (9pm Nigerian time).
Egypt lost 1-0 to Senegal in the semi-final but are now focused on securing a podium finish. Trezeguet acknowledged Nigeria's quality but made their intentions clear: "Nigeria has a good team with great players but we are fully focused on winning and finishing the AFCON with a positive result." Coach Hossam Hassan's side defeated Nigeria 1-0 in a friendly just before the tournament started, giving them psychological momentum.
The Super Eagles, coached by Éric Chelle, are also desperate for a win after losing to Morocco in the semi-final. Team captain Wilfred Ndidi has advised the NFF against sacking Chelle, while the coach defends Samuel Chukwueze for his penalty miss. Nigeria's team will pocket $2.5 million in prize money despite the defeat.
This match is about national pride. Will Egypt's pre-tournament confidence translate to a bronze medal, or will Nigeria's Super Eagles bounce back to salvage their campaign?
