El-Rufai alleges NSA phone interception, Dadiyata disappearance cover-up
Former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai alleges the National Security Adviser's phone was intercepted and he listened to conversations about arresting him. He also claims former Kano governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was complicit in the 2019 disappearance of Abubakar Idris (Dadiyata). El-Rufai admitted the interception was illegal but justified it by claiming government actors listen to calls. The claims carry constitutional, criminal and diplomatic implications. If true, the interception breaches national security protocols. El-Rufai's admission of benefiting from the interception creates a moral paradox given his history of executive high-handedness. Both he and Ganduje must disclose their knowledge about Dadiyata's disappearance. The government must investigate transparently without vindictiveness. El-Rufai should reveal who unlawfully accessed the NSA's communications.
