Election observers seek protection for credible 2027 polls
A coalition of independent election observers has appealed to Nigerian authorities for protection ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group, led by Chief Dr Lazarus Nwachukwu, includes organizations like the Centre for the Promotion of Peace and Unity and the Forum of Independent Election Observers of Nigeria. They demand guarantees against intimidation, harassment, or misuse of state institutions during the electoral process. Observers must operate freely before, during, and after elections to strengthen democracy and public confidence. The coalition plans to mobilise up to 5,000 observers nationwide, aligning with international best practices. Public cooperation is urged to ensure transparency and accountability.
