Executive Director of YIAGA Africa, Samson Itodo, criticized the Electoral Act 2026 for allowing manual transmission of election results when electronic systems fail. Speaking at a Citizen's Townhall, Itodo called this a missed opportunity for Nigerian politicians to ensure transparency. He argued the proviso undermines the Act's core objective of reducing human interference in elections. Itodo urged lawmakers to amend the Act to remove the manual transmission provision, stating it limits transparency and should have been addressed during the 2022 Act amendment process. The Act was signed into law by President Tinubu on February 18, 2026, following debates over result transmission methods ahead of the 2027 elections.
