Etafia named goalkeeper coach for Tanzanian side Young Africans

Former Nigeria international goalkeeper Greg Etafia has been appointed goalkeeper coach of Tanzanian Premier League side Young Africans, DAILY POST reported on July 22, 2026. Etafia joins a new technical crew headed by head coach Manqoba Mngqithi. The 43‑year‑old began his coaching career in 2015 as goalkeeper coach at Moroka Swallows in South Africa, serving as caretaker manager there in March 2016. He moved to Cape Town All Stars later that year, where he again served as caretaker coach, lifting the team from the bottom of the table to 14th place and guiding them to the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup. Etafia has also worked as goalkeeper coach for Baroka FC and TS Galaxy. As a player, he featured in the Nigeria Premier Football League for Lobi Stars and Plateau United and was part of Nigeria’s U‑23 squad at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

His appointment highlights the growing demand for Nigerian goalkeeping expertise abroad and offers a career pathway for other local coaches aiming to work overseas.
