Nepal has increased Mount Everest climbing permits to $15,000 for the spring season, up from $11,000, to combat environmental degradation. The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee announced the hike alongside stricter waste management rules requiring climbers to bring back at least two kilograms of trash from Camp 2. Eight icefall doctors have begun fixing ropes and ladders in the treacherous Khumbu Icefall, following a traditional blessing ceremony at base camp. Expedition operators anticipate minimal disruption from Middle East flight chaos. The move aims to reduce pollution from the 700+ annual summit attempts, with climbers also required to use 'poo bags' for waste disposal.
