Ex-Aviation Minister Sirika Says Buhari Left Flourishing Nigeria Economy, Education
Former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika claimed on Arise Television earlier today that ex-President Buhari left Nigeria with a flourishing economy and better education sector, directly contradicting widespread criticism of Buhari's economic management.
Sirika stated, "The truth of the matter is that Buhari did extremely well on the economy... the country at the time was in a good state" and "I believe President Buhari left behind a country that was flourishing," specifically citing both economic and educational improvements during Buhari's tenure.
However, Sirika distanced himself from debates about Buhari's role in current hardships, saying "I don’t want to be dragged into that debate" regarding claims that Buhari's actions and inactions caused today's difficulties. He also noted he cannot fairly critique Tinubu's policies as he's "neither President Buhari nor President Tinubu."
This perspective from a former Buhari administration official comes amid ongoing national debates about economic performance comparisons between administrations, particularly as Tinubu's government faces scrutiny over inflation and naira depreciation.
When evaluating competing narratives about Buhari's legacy versus current economic challenges, what specific economic indicators or lived experiences would convince you one administration performed better than the other?
