FAAN distributes 70k Go Cashless cards to ease airport congestion
Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has distributed over 70,000 Go Cashless cards since enforcing cashless payments at airports nationwide on March 1, 2026. The transition caused temporary traffic congestion at entry gates, toll points, and car parks, prompting FAAN to apologize for the inconvenience while assuring improvements are underway. Director Henry Agbebire confirmed 30,000 cards issued pre-March 1, with 40,000 more processed in the first three days of enforcement. The contactless cards enable faster barrier access compared to debit cards or E-tags, which may slow traffic during peak periods. FAAN expects normal operations to stabilize within a week and advises international travelers to arrive three hours early. The initiative aims to curb revenue leakages and improve financial transparency, part of broader federal digitization efforts.
