FAAN launches V-Pass facial recognition for faster airport processing
FAAN has rolled out a new biometric facial recognition system called V-Pass to speed up passenger processing at domestic airports across Nigeria. The system, approved by the Federal Government in April 2026, requires passengers to complete a one-time enrolment after which their identity is verified automatically through facial recognition at e-gates. FAAN says the technology will cut reliance on physical ID documents, tighten security and shorten queues, while complying with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation.
The rollout is being handled by VERXID Technologies Limited and will be followed by a nationwide sensitisation campaign before full implementation. It complements the government's existing e-gate programme at international airports—where eight e-gates are already in use at Abuja's Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and 21 are planned for Lagos' Murtala Muhammed International Airport, with four each earmarked for Kano, Enugu and Port Harcourt, totalling 41 gates nationwide.
For travelers, this means faster check-in and boarding once the system is live at their usual domestic airport. Will you sign up for the one-time V-Pass enrolment to enjoy quicker, contactless passage through Nigerian airports?
