FAAN MD Kuku cites e-hailing complaints, launches ACHRAMS platform at airports
FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku said passengers reported intimidation, excessive fares, and being dropped off at wrong locations by e-hailing drivers during the December 2025 holiday period at Nigerian airports. She added that some Uber and Bolt drivers pose as airport e-hailing operators, then join car-hire touts to charge higher rates. In response, FAAN temporarily barred e-hailing pickups at its airports while finalizing license agreements.
This matters because travelers relying on apps like Uber, Bolt, or local services face safety and transparency risks at arrival and departure points. To address this, FAAN introduced the Airport Car Hire and Ride Management System (ACHRAMS), which shows registered car-hire companies and driver identities, though fares displayed are only indicative and not collected by FAAN. Passengers remain free to choose between pre-booked car-hire and e-hailing options; FAAN’s role is limited to ensuring visibility, safety, and accountability within airport premises.
What should you know? Before your next airport trip, check the ACHRAMS platform on FAAN’s website or app to verify a driver’s registration and vehicle details. Report any suspicious activity to airport security or via FAAN’s hotline. Remember that Uber’s exit from Nigeria is a business decision by the company, not a FAAN directive. Will you use ACHRAMS to verify rides, or opt for pre-booked services to avoid unexpected charges and risks?
