Federal Executive Council has approved $2.99 billion for three major rail projects in Lagos, Kano, and Kaduna states. The projects include Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line rail, Kano Metro City rail project, and Kaduna light rail system. Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele made the announcement Thursday after FEC's fifth council meeting.

The projects will be financed through the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) with additional counterpart funding. The federal government selected these cities due to their strategic importance as economic hubs where targeted investments could yield significant returns. Oyedele noted these cities are places where "10 per cent effort can yield up to 90 per cent results."

These rail initiatives aim to improve urban mobility, enhance productivity, and raise living standards across Nigeria's key economic centers. The infrastructure projects align with the federal government's development agenda for inclusive growth and sustainable urban transport systems.

With ₦4.5 trillion in infrastructure spending already approved this year, how will these rail projects impact your commute or business operations in Lagos, Kano, or Kaduna?
