FG Approves GIS-Enabled Postcode System to Modernize Nigeria's Addressing Framework
Nigeria's Federal Executive Council has approved a GIS-enabled alphanumeric digital postcode system to modernize the national addressing framework, as disclosed by Minister of Communications Bosun Tijani on X. The system, developed in collaboration with NIPOST, aims to solve longstanding address issues like undefined street names and house numbers, particularly in informal settlements and urban areas. By providing precise digital locations, it will improve mail and parcel processing, emergency response, logistics, e-commerce, and government service delivery. This initiative supports Nigeria's expanding digital economy, following NIPOST's recent digital payment partnerships with Paystack and others to streamline cross-border remittances and customs payments.
