Federal Government initiates overhaul of mining regulations to combat illegal operations, last updated in 2007. President of Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Rose Ndong, announced the review process at a Uyo press briefing ahead of the 262nd council meeting. The exercise aims to identify gaps in current laws and address illegal mining nationwide. NMGS and other stakeholders are collaborating with the Ministry of Mines to modernize regulations. The review follows emerging industry trends and seeks to ensure federal oversight of mining licences, currently reserved for the federal government. The Uyo 2026 conference will address sustainable resource management and infrastructure development, promoting geotourism and investment opportunities in Nigeria's solid minerals sector.
