FG Condemns Arrests of 42 Nigerians in Mozambique, Demands Release
Nigeria's Federal Government has condemned the arrest of 42 Nigerians in Mozambique, demanding their immediate release. The Nigerians were reportedly detained without formal charges filed against them at a spare parts market in Mozambique. NiDCOM Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa described the selective targeting of Nigerians as xenophobic and called for either their immediate release or due legal process. The Commission alleges some detainees were beaten, had belongings confiscated, and require medical attention. NiDCOM emphasized the need for fair treatment of Nigerians abroad and urged Mozambican authorities to respect legal procedures.
