On Friday, the Federal Ministry of Education announced that it has ended physical verification of academic credentials and shifted the entire process to an online system. All applications for authentication and evaluation must now be submitted through the ministry’s official verification portal at essverify.education.gov.ng, as stated in a release signed by Director of Press and Public Relations Boriowo Folasade.

The move aligns with the government’s digital transformation agenda, aiming to improve transparency, speed up processing, ensure data integrity, and support evidence‑based policy decisions in the education sector. The ministry said the automated system will simplify procedures, reduce processing time, and boost the credibility of academic credential verification across Nigeria, eliminating the need for applicants to visit the ministry in person.

Applicants are required to register on the portal, upload all supporting documents, and request that their awarding institutions send academic transcripts directly from the institutions’ official email addresses to [email protected] for verification. The ministry advises strict compliance with the new guidelines to ensure seamless processing. Will you adopt the new online portal for your credential verification, or do you foresee challenges in adapting to this fully digital process?
