Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe announced on Thursday that the Federal Government has secured fresh Chinese investment commitments to address Nigeria's electricity shortfall. The commitments came after Tegbe's engagements in Beijing with China's leading power engineering firms and financial institutions, aimed at turning partnerships into bankable projects, financed investments, and completed infrastructure Nigerians can measure in megawatts delivered, kilometres of lines energised and hours of reliable supply.

The investment is intended to accelerate the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) projects. During the talks, Tegbe pressed for faster completion schedules and urged a shift from standard engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts to full-scope partnerships that bundle design, building, financing and operation.

Despite these efforts, DAILY POST cites Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission data showing the majority of Nigerians still lack reliable electricity. The new partnerships could bring measurable improvements, but timelines and exact funding amounts have not been disclosed.

Will these Chinese-backed projects deliver the megawatts and supply stability Nigerians need, or will implementation delays and contractual shifts leave the power gap unchanged?
