Federal Government orders Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to strictly adhere to the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) as part of efforts to strengthen budget credibility and promote fiscal discipline across public institutions. The directive, issued by Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume during a visit by the Fiscal Responsibility Commission in Abuja, emphasizes that MTEF compliance is critical for maintaining accountability in public spending and ensuring a stable fiscal environment. Akume stressed that the framework helps government spending reflect national priorities and development goals, aligning public expenditure with national objectives to promote predictability and sustainability in budgeting processes. The commission's chairman, Victor Chinmerem Muruako, acknowledged ongoing fiscal reforms under Bola Tinubu's administration, noting they provide necessary support for the commission's oversight responsibilities. Stricter compliance with the expenditure framework is expected to improve financial management in public institutions, strengthen fiscal responsibility, and ensure national resources are managed in line with development needs.
