FG places 21 states, FCT on high Ebola risk alert
Nigeria places 21 states and FCT on high/medium Ebola risk alert following outbreaks in DRC and Uganda. High-risk states: Lagos, FCT, Rivers, Kano, Enugu, Borno, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Taraba, Adamawa due to airports, porous borders and active travel routes. NCDC warns risk of importation is high due to international travel, regional population movement, and extensive trade networks. Ebola symptoms resemble malaria and Lassa fever, risking delayed detection. Current outbreak involves Bundibugyo strain with no approved vaccines—1,077 suspected cases and 247 deaths reported in DRC/Uganda. States must activate emergency mechanisms, strengthen surveillance at airports/borders, prepare isolation facilities, and submit readiness reports within 72 hours. Report any suspected Ebola cases, unusual fever clusters, or high-risk exposure immediately.
