FG to fund evacuation of over 1,000 Nigerians from South Africa as screening ends
More than 1,000 Nigerians stranded in South Africa due to anti-immigrant protests have registered for voluntary evacuation, with screening underway since June 4 at the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria. The Federal Government says it will cover all repatriation costs once the joint verification exercise with South African authorities concludes. NiDCOM Chair Abike Dabiri-Erewa noted the process has been peaceful and organized, with flights expected to commence next week pending fund approval. Five aircraft are planned for the operation, and evacuees will not bear any expenses for their return home.
