FG Withdraws Passports from Nigerians Who Renounced Citizenship
Federal government orders immediate withdrawal and deactivation of Nigerian passports held by individuals who have formally renounced their citizenship. The directive, issued by Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo earlier this month, targets only persons whose renunciation has been approved by the president in line with constitutional provisions.
Minister Tunji-Ojo directed Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to enforce the measure without delay, aimed at preserving Nigeria's citizenship framework integrity and preventing misuse of official travel documents. The policy applies nationwide to all Nigerians who have successfully renounced citizenship but still hold Nigerian passports.
Affected individuals should contact NIS immediately for clarification on documentation requirements. The ministry stated the move ensures official travel documents remain aligned with citizenship status.
