France sends eight frigates, two amphibious carriers, and nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to eastern Mediterranean and Red Sea. Deployment aims to support allies targeted by Iran's retaliation and secure maritime routes. President Macron stated the move is strictly defensive, responding to recent drone attacks on Cyprus. France will increase EU Aspides mission involvement and establish a defensive escort for commercial ships in Strait of Hormuz once conflict subsides. Deployment follows diversion of Charles de Gaulle from Baltic Sea to reinforce Cyprus security.
