Fuel pricesrise worsens hardship in Nigeria – IHRC
The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has expressed serious concern over the continuous increase in fuel prices in Nigeria, warning that the development is worsening hardship for ordinary citizens. The organization stated that rising fuel costs are placing a heavy burden on Nigerians, leading to higher transportation costs, rising food prices, and an overall increase in the cost of living across the country. Despite Nigeria being an oil-producing nation with significant petroleum resources and refining capacity, the IHRC noted that citizens find it difficult to understand why domestic fuel prices continue to increase. The organization called on the country's leadership to respond with urgency, transparency, and a strong sense of responsibility toward citizens' welfare. It also urged stakeholders, particularly members of the National Assembly, to review the situation and take appropriate measures to address the growing concern. The wellbeing of Nigerians must remain a central priority in the management of the nation's resources.
