Fury confirms Joshua heavyweight clash at Madison Square Garden, NYC
Tyson Fury announced via Instagram that his long-awaited heavyweight showdown with British-Nigerian Anthony Joshua will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York, ending months of venue uncertainty. Fury shared a promotional poster featuring both fighters against the NYC skyline but did not disclose a date for the bout.
The fight matters because Joshua, a two-time former world champion with Nigerian heritage, has been central to negotiations that originally stipulated a UK venue. His promoter Eddie Hearn had expressed concerns about US tax implications reducing Joshua’s net purse, but a deal was reached after both fighters signed contracts with Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority. Organisers Netflix and Alalshikh pushed for the US stage, and the bout is now expected in November, with November 20 cited as a target date.
Fury, 36 wins with losses only to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, returned to action in July with a tune-up win over Mariusz Wach in Pattaya, Thailand. Joshua also secured a July 25 victory over Kristian Prenga in Jeddah, which Hearn said helped advance talks. The clash, years in the making after a 2021 collapse due to Wilder obligations, now moves closer with MSG set as the stage.
