FUTA VC Charges SUG Leaders at Strategic Retreat
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, has just concluded a high-powered leadership retreat with the Students' Union Government (SUG) executives. In this closed-door but publicized meeting, she dropped a serious charge to the student leaders: prioritize dialogue over "Aluta" (protests).
The VC emphasized that the current economic situation in the country is tough, and the best way to solve student welfarism issues is through "Alternative Dispute Resolution" rather than shutting down the school. She challenged the SUG President and his team to be bridge-builders who can negotiate smart deals for the students without disrupting the academic calendar.
This "gist" is hot because it sets the tone for the semester. The management is essentially telling the Union, "We are ready to work with you, but don't bring wahala." Students are now watching closely to see if the SUG will heed this advice or if the pressure of transport and hostel issues will force them to return to the streets.
