The Federal University of Technology, Owerri confirmed Friday that two female students abducted from campus on Sunday have been safely released. University PRO Orakwe Ezugwu said the students are receiving medical care and psychological support at the university's medical centre, with Vice-Chancellor Ikechukwu Dozie having visited and interacted with them.

Management praised police and security agencies for their prompt intervention in securing the students' release. Ezugwu stated that additional security measures are being sustained in collaboration with relevant security agencies to prevent similar incidents.

The university community has been urged to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity to authorities. Ezugwu noted that abduction-for-ransom remains one of the top crimes affecting Nigerians, including students and clerics, in many cities across the country.

With campus safety concerns heightened by this incident, students, parents, and staff should know that immediate reporting of suspicious activities is critical. The university's medical and psychological support services are available for those affected by such traumatic events.

Will you familiarize yourself with your institution's emergency protocols and actively participate in community vigilance efforts to enhance campus safety?
