Ghana-Nigeria friendly in Tallinn promotes African unity this Saturday
Ghana and Nigeria will play a friendly football match on Saturday, September 5 at 3 p.m. at Sportland Arena, Jalgpalli 21, Tallinn, as part of the African Unity Cup – Friendship Match organized by African Expats MTÜ with the Association of Ghanaians in Estonia (AGIE) and Afro Empire. The event aims to foster unity, community engagement and positive African representation in the diaspora, featuring cultural exhibitions, music and vendors from 3-5:30 p.m.
Tamara Adu, CEO of Afro Empire, emphasized the match transcends football rivalry, focusing on unity, identity and belonging for Africans in Estonia. Benny Baiden, AGIE President, stated the game strengthens Ghana-Nigeria bonds as brothers, noting even with jollof rice debates, they play to connect. Seun Agbabiaka, Media Coordinator, highlighted how Nigerian and Ghanaian players in Estonia's league (like Abraham Nwankwo at FC Levadia) already cooperate despite national rivalries, urging Nigerians in Estonia to be disciplined ambassadors.
The match reflects broader efforts to challenge stereotypes and build networks among African communities abroad. For Nigerians in Estonia, this offers direct community engagement; for others, it exemplifies positive diaspora initiatives that counter negative narratives about Africa globally.
