Global music industry revenue reached $31.7 billion last year, driven by online streaming which accounted for 70% of total income. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) reported 6.4% growth, marking the 11th consecutive year of expansion. Streaming subscriptions reached 837 million worldwide, with paid subscriptions driving most growth. However, IFPI warns against AI-generated content flooding platforms, calling it 'streaming fraud' that steals from musicians. AI platforms like Suno and Udio argue their work falls under 'fair use' copyright loopholes, though Warner Music Group recently agreed to compensate artists whose work is used. Taylor Swift topped global artist earnings in 2025. Nigerian artists should monitor these developments as AI tools gain traction locally.
