GOCOP Launches Dotun Oladipo Prize for Online Journalism
GOCOP announced plans to institute the Dotun Oladipo Prize for Online Journalism in memory of its former president, following his August 25 death at age 56. Deputy President Olumide Iyanda made the announcement at Oladipo's service of songs held Thursday at Regal Hall, Daystar Christian Centre, Oregun, Lagos.
The prize aims to recognize outstanding online journalism in Nigeria while preserving Oladipo's legacy as a journalist, publisher and GOCOP leader who served as president from 2017-2021 and published The Eagle Online until his death. Details of the prize will be finalized by the Guild in due course.
Oladipo remained active in GOCOP affairs after his presidency, serving as Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee and arranging accommodations for members traveling to the October annual conference at the time of his death. Iyanda recalled that on his final morning, Oladipo planned to sign a guarantor's form for a Guild member traveling abroad.
