As the political atmosphere gets charged, Governor Biodun Oyebanji has issued a stern warning against any form of election violence. Speaking at the launch of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem at the Governor’s Office, he declared that his ambition is not worth the blood of any Ekiti citizen. This declaration comes amidst rumors of political thugs being armed ahead of the campaigns. The Governor stated clearly that security agencies have been given marching orders to clamp down on any individual or group planning to disrupt the peace of the state.

The Governor backed his words with action by donating N5 million to the legionnaires and pledging continuous support for the families of fallen heroes. However, the core of his message was directed at the political class. He urged all aspirants, including those in his own party, to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than mudslinging and violence. He emphasized that the 2026 election must be the most peaceful in the history of the state, and he would not hesitate to authorize the arrest of troublemakers, regardless of their party affiliation.

This statement is viewed as a preemptive move to de-escalate tensions following the recent PDP court judgment and the heating up of the polity. By taking a public stand against violence, the Governor is trying to set the tone for a civilized contest. He specifically mentioned the collaboration with the Amotekun Corps and the new military presence as tools that will be used to enforce this peace, warning that "thuggery will meet a brick wall."

For the average Ekiti resident, this is reassuring but also a signal to be vigilant. The "hot gist" on the street is that security checkpoints will increase significantly in the coming weeks. The Governor’s "No Tolerance" stance is being interpreted as a sign that the government is ready to use maximum force to maintain order, which puts potential troublemakers on high alert.
