Grey Introduces CNY Payouts to Streamline Payments to Chinese Suppliers
Grey now supports Chinese Yuan (CNY) payouts, enabling users across its African markets to pay Chinese suppliers directly from existing USD, EUR, GBP or stablecoin balances without first holding yuan. The service allows sending 50-21,000 CNY per transaction at a flat $2.80 fee, with transfers typically completed within 24 hours (Monday-Friday, subject to 10:00 GMT cutoff).
This addresses a key pain point as Africa-China trade surged to $207 billion in the first half of 2026, driven by China's zero-tariff policy for African exports. Nigerian importers and businesses sourcing machinery, electronics and manufactured goods from China can now avoid the complexity and cost of sourcing yuan separately before payments.
According to Grey CEO Idorenyin Obong, the expansion aims to make financial infrastructure reflect the growing commercial reality where 'China isn't a foreign, hard-to-reach market anymore' but one Africans 'live and work in every day.' The feature targets small importers, e-commerce sellers, larger businesses with recurring payments, and individuals with China-related needs.
Will this CNY payout option save you time and money on your China transactions compared to your current payment method?
