Gumi blames foreign intel for Nigeria's killings, calls for security review
Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi claims secret foreign intelligence operations may be behind Nigeria's killings, citing pattern of attacks across the country. His allegations follow the Gari Ya Waye community attack in Jos North (Plateau State) that left more than 20 dead, March 16 Maiduguri bomb blasts (23 killed, 100+ injured), and March 29 Jos attack during Palm Sunday.
Gumi stressed the violence should not be linked to religion, suggesting hidden external influence working through local collaborators. He noted both civilians and security personnel have been victims, with some Nigerians acting as 'foot soldiers' for such operations.
The cleric called on Federal Government to review security strategy, reduce foreign involvement, and seek support from 'friendly super powers' for satellite intelligence and military equipment while strengthening local security capacity.
