Former presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing Nigeria's worsening economic hardship and declining democratic space as key reasons for his decision.

In a statement released on Sunday, Hayatu-Deen expressed concerns about rising cost of living, insecurity, and what he described as systematic closure of credible opposition space. 'Like many Nigerians, I want a safer and more prosperous future, but the nation faces fundamental problems that are being ignored,' he said.

The former presidential hopeful emphasized that Nigerians want government focused on fixing problems, reducing cost of living, and creating jobs. He also warned about 'increasing shrinkage of our democratic space,' noting that voices are being stifled and institutions are under strain.

Hayatu-Deen stated that ADC offers a credible alternative, stressing this is not just a party change but 'a step towards building a better future for Nigerians.' He pledged to campaign actively with the party until the 2027 elections, saying he will 'campaign relentlessly as a party member to help ADC win.'

This move signals potential political realignment ahead of 2027 polls as ADC positions itself as an alternative addressing current national concerns. Will this realignment give voters a credible option addressing their economic and democratic concerns?
