House of Reps seeks lift of Benin, Togo degree ban
The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to lift the blanket ban on degree certificates from Benin and Togo. The move follows adoption of a committee report recommending a case-by-case verification system instead of blanket invalidation. The petition from Sovereignty Legal Practitioners highlighted that the 2024 ban, prompted by fraud concerns, unfairly penalizes legitimate graduates. Lawmakers urged enhanced collaboration with Benin and Togo's education authorities to curb fraud while authenticating foreign qualifications. The Federal Government is now considering the committee's recommendations.
