IGPClarifies Police Team Reduction, Denies Disbanding Units Nationwide
Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu has clarified reports claiming he disbanded all police tactical teams nationwide. In a statement, Disu stated the police only reduced tactical teams at zonal/state commands to a maximum of five and at area/divisional levels to three to prevent proliferation and duplication. The directive excludes state-created outfits like Lagos' Rapid Response Squad. Disu cited concerns about manpower drain and public complaints over poorly supervised teams. The move aims to enhance supervision, strengthen divisions, and address public grievances against police excesses.
