The International Human Rights Commission - Relief Fund Trust (IHRC-RFT) has warned that Nigeria's democratic institutions will be judged by history based on their response to the worsening security crisis. The Commission commended Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa for his November 2025 intervention in the House of Representatives where he declared Nigeria was 'running in blood and tears' - a statement reflecting the painful reality facing citizens. However, nearly four months later, the IHRC expressed concern that Nigerians have seen no substantial improvement in security. Farmers have abandoned lands, communities displaced, worship centres attacked, and innocent citizens killed across the country. The Commission directed questions to National Assembly leadership: 'Where does this matter currently stand?' and 'Why has decisive legislative action not followed Doguwa's appeal?' The IHRC argued that such fundamental issues touching constitutional responsibilities should trigger immediate institutional response and accountability. Prolonged inaction risks normalizing criminality, weakening public trust, encouraging impunity, and expanding criminal networks. The Commission called on all National Assembly members to convert words into enforceable action, stating: 'Nigerians deserve to see outcomes, not only expressions of concern.' Security challenges require coordinated legislative oversight, emergency frameworks, and intelligence reform.
