India, US 99% Done with First Trade Deal
India and the United States are "about 99 percent" done with the first tranche of a trade deal as a US delegation begins three days of talks in New Delhi. Indian commerce minister Piyush Goyal told reporters: "I am fully confident that we will conclude and sign the first tranche of the bilateral trade agreement with the United States." The deal negotiations slowed after President Trump's sweeping tariff measures were struck down by the US Supreme Court, but resumed after both sides addressed legal changes. The two countries have set a target of boosting bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030, with India claiming the deal protects its sensitive dairy and agricultural products while opening a $30 trillion market for its exporters. US ambassador Sergio Gor expects the interim deal to be signed "in the next few weeks." What impact might this US-India trade partnership have on global markets and Nigeria's economic positioning in international trade?
