INEC Chief Mahmood Yakubu presents credentials as Nigeria's Ambassador to Qatar
Former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu formally presented his Letters of Credence to Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at the Amiri Diwan in Doha on Thursday, 2 July 2026. He was accompanied by senior officials from the Nigerian Embassy, and the ceremony included full diplomatic honours, including an inspection of the Guard of Honour.
The presentation signals continuity in Nigeria-Qatar relations. Yakubu conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s greetings to the Amir and offered condolences over the recent accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City. He underscored Qatar’s intent to deepen cooperation with Nigeria in trade, investment, education, security, and humanitarian affairs—areas that could open new opportunities for Nigerian businesses, students, and security agencies.
Yakubu’s appointment follows his tenure as INEC chairman overseeing the 2023 general elections. While no specific timelines for new agreements were announced, the envoy pledged to follow up on the discussed sectors to translate diplomatic goodwill into concrete outcomes.
As Nigeria seeks to expand its trade and investment ties with Qatar, what opportunities should Nigerian entrepreneurs, students, or security agencies explore to benefit from deeper cooperation?
