INEC defends 2027 election timetable amid APC rigging claims
INEC National Commissioner Mohammed Kudu Haruna dismissed objections to the revised 2027 election timetable, stating political parties have sufficient time to establish digital memberships by April 2, 2026. The commission released the schedule Thursday, outlining compliance timelines for parties and voter registration processes. Haruna told Channels Television the timeline is feasible, noting "every serious party should have no problem collating its membership." However, opposition party ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi countered that the amendment is APC's rigging tactic, declaring "ADC will not be used to legitimise a fraudulent process." Haruna maintained INEC follows existing laws, while acknowledging operational challenges including BVAS machine procurement and voter register revalidation. He cautioned the election may not be glitch-free.
