INEC denies forensic evidence linking chairman to alleged partisan X post
INEC says no verified forensic evidence links Chairman Joash Amupitan to an alleged partisan X post expressing support for APC during the 2023 general elections. Lawrence Bayode, INEC's ICT Director, clarified this during Channels Television interview Monday.
The commission has referred the matter to security agencies while engaging a third-party forensic expert for investigation. Bayode emphasized he won't base conclusions on screenshots alone and noted the account was renamed and content potentially manipulated.
He also highlighted AI systems like Grok can hallucinate and social media accounts can be opened using others' email addresses, suggesting possible digital impersonation. The matter remains under investigation.
