INEC has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections by three days, moving the cutoff from Saturday, July 11, 2026 to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. The reversal follows an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which cited technical challenges parties faced while uploading candidate details to INEC's nomination portal. INEC's National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, announced the change in a statement issued on Sunday, July 12, emphasizing that the extension aims to encourage wider participation while staying within the Electoral Act's provisions. The commission urged all parties to use the additional window to upload complete candidate names and personal particulars before the new deadline expires. This development affects all political parties contesting the 2027 general election nationwide, potentially influencing which candidates appear on the ballot and the overall inclusiveness of the electoral process.
