INEC extends voter registration deadline to July 24, giving Nigerians extra two weeks

INEC has extended the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) deadline by two weeks, moving it from July 10 to Friday, July 24, 2026. National Commissioner Mohammed Kudu Haruna announced the extension on Friday night in Abuja, saying the additional time will allow more eligible Nigerians to enroll before upcoming elections.

The extension matters because it gives citizens more opportunity to register to vote for the Osun State governorship election on August 15, 2026, as well as other local and national polls scheduled later this year. Many potential voters missed the original deadline due to lack of awareness, work commitments, or difficulties accessing registration centers. The extra fortnight aims to increase voter turnout and reduce disenfranchisement, especially among youths and rural residents who often face logistical hurdles.

To take advantage, visit the INEC portal at iec.nigerianvote.gov.ng or go to any designated registration center with your NIN, birth certificate or age declaration, and a valid ID. Registration closes July 24 at 11:59 pm; after that, no new registrations will be processed until the next CVR cycle.
