The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct a nationwide voter revalidation exercise starting April 13, 2026, to ensure a credible register for the 2027 general elections. According to an internal memo dated April 2 and signed by Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the hybrid exercise allows both online participation and in-person verification at centers established in every local government area, registration area, and polling unit.

The physical verification phase runs in three stages: April 13-May 2 at LGA level, May 5-11 at registration areas, and May 13-19 at polling units. INEC will deploy Voter Enrollment Devices (IVEDs)—two per LGA and one per smaller unit—with two personnel (INEC staff and NYSC members) assigned to each device. Voter education campaigns are already underway from March 1 to June 5.

The timeline extends through late 2026: PVC printing for new voters (June 4-July 3), PDF register generation (June 15-28), display register printing (July 7-20), physical display at registration areas (August 18-25), and final register publication on December 15. The 2027 elections are set for January 16 (presidential/National Assembly) and February 6 (governorship/state assemblies).

This revalidation is your opportunity to confirm your voter details are accurate. Will you proactively check your registration area's schedule and attend during your allocated window, or gamble that your information is already correct and potentially lose your vote in 2027?
