INEC to clean up voter register ahead of 2027 election
INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan announced a nationwide Voter Revalidation Exercise to clean Nigeria's voter register ahead of the 2027 general election. The clean-up targets persistent anomalies including duplicate registrations, underage voters, non-citizens, deceased voters, and incomplete records. The current register stands at 93.47 million voters, but Anambra's 2023 election saw only 20% turnout despite 2.8 million registered voters. The exercise begins January 5 and runs until April 17, 2026, with a full year-long CVR process concluding August 30, 2027. Registration details will be published weekly on INEC's website.
