Iran rejects Trump's claim conflict could end 'soon'
Iranian officials have dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump's assertion that the ongoing conflict could conclude 'soon', insisting Tehran will determine when hostilities end. Trump made the remarks while addressing U.S. lawmakers, suggesting the fighting might wrap up 'soon' without providing a specific timeframe. 'It's going to be ended soon, and if it starts up again they'll be hit even harder,' Trump stated. When pressed for clarification, Trump acknowledged he believed the conflict would end soon but declined to give a definite timeline. The tensions have also impacted global energy markets, with oil prices surging to $120 per barrel before falling to $90 per barrel on Tuesday - the first decline since the conflict escalated in the Middle East. Iran's IRGC spokesperson warned that continued U.S. and Israeli attacks could prompt Tehran to halt oil exports from the region. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed diplomatic engagement with Washington, citing past experiences during nuclear negotiations. 'They told us they had no intention of attacking Iran and that they wanted a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue,' Araghchi said. 'Yet they ultimately chose to strike us.' The minister added that Iran would continue defending its sovereignty amid the ongoing conflict.
