Iranian media revealed the government's new 14-point counterproposal sent through Pakistani mediators last Thursday in response to the US's nine-point peace proposal. According to semi-official news agencies Fars and Tasnim, the US requested a two-month ceasefire, but Iran insists all issues be resolved within 30 days.

Iranian demands include withdrawal of US forces from surrounding regions, lifting of the naval blockade, establishment of a new mechanism for the Strait, complete sanctions removal, and ending military conflict on all fronts including Lebanon. The counterproposal comes weeks after US and Israel launched air strikes on Iran on February 28 that killed Iran's Supreme Leader and other top government officials.

This diplomatic development comes amid rising global tensions that could impact international oil markets, with Nigeria as Africa's largest oil producer potentially affected by any resolution or escalation in the Middle East. Will this 30-day timeframe lead to genuine de-escalation or merely delay inevitable conflict?
