Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei calls for unity amid war
Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued his first statement after taking over from his father Ali Khamenei, killed in missile strikes. In a televised address, he called for national unity and vowed the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed. Attacks on US bases in the region would continue, he said, with Yemen's Houthis joining the fight. Khamenei thanked Iran's soldiers for resisting US and Israel, pledging continued combat. Over 1,300 Iranians killed; 8 US soldiers and 13 Israelis confirmed dead.
